White Ink Printing

White ink printing is a dark art!

The process of printing with white ink delivers huge gains in colour vibrancy when working with darker media. There are essentially two principle applications: under printing and over printing, both of which are explained later. The impact that both processes create is highly impressive and we would be delighted to either send you samples or offer a tour of our visitor friendly production facility in Openshaw, Manchester.

White ink printing produces stunning images

We offer a comprehensive white ink printing service as we have multiple machines printing on a range of sizes. For large format we use our flat bed printer; for small format we use our HP Indigo presses. Almost uniquely we can offer low volume print runs which are ideal if customers require one off pieces or prototypes and this has considerable cost savings.

Having two HP indigo presses we have extensive capacity to meet tight deadlines even for large orders. This also enables us to produce proofs very quickly for customer sign off.

Some customers require very low print runs, sometimes as small as three or four items.  We understand and are delighted to offer this service. Customers can after all be confident that any repeat orders will be identical in quality and fulfilled without a long delay.

Under printing with white ink produces punchy, vibrant colours

Under printing is one of the main applications for white ink printing.  This principle is similar to applying an under coat of paint on a wall before applying the final paint colour. It is mostly used when colours are going to be printed on a dark material. The white ink layer is printed first on the areas where colour will be required leaving large areas of the dark material exposed as the designer intended, then when colour is applied to the white layer the colours are vibrant and stand out from the background colour of the material.  A good example would be printing on wood where a section of grain could be seen. This ads much more visual punch!

Over printing delivers a full colour gambit

Over printing is where a whole layer of white ink is applied to a transparent material such as vinyl or acrylic and then the main image is printed on the reverse using a full range of colours. The white ink layer enables the colours to standout and makes a much more impactful creation.
